Summaries from the 2022 - 2023 National Cover Crop Survey Report:

Nearly 800 farmers representing 49 states and a range of crops were represented in the 2022-2023 National Cover Crop Survey Report. Over half (52%) of surveyed corn growers reported no change in fertilizer costs in corn following at least 3 years of cover crops. The second-largest group of corn growers (21%) said they saved more than $20 per acre on nutrient inputs in corn following cover crops.

The majority (55%) of respondents saw no change in herbicide costs in corn following cover crops, and 3 out of 4 of those saw improved weed control. The second-largest group surveyed said they said money on corn herbicides on corn that followed cover crops.

In soybeans, similar reports were noted: 52% of respondents reported equivalent herbicide costs following cover crops, and 45% saved money.

A major takeaway from this study was that 90% of respondents who received cover crop payments in 2022 reported that they either "definitely" or "probably" planned to use cover crops after the payments end.
